Yay for eBay!
Jun. 24th, 2008 11:11 amAfter getting the same site/manufacturer recommended to me for a sports bra by a number of people, I've just bought a Moving Comfort Maia sports bra. It retails for $44 on the Title 9 website, but is on sale for $34. I got it on eBay in my size for about $25, including shipping. :) It has an underwire and molded cups, but those are invisible under the shell, so it looks like a regular sports bra, and not something that I'd feel embarrassed about wearing around by itself. A lot of the ones designed for bigger-busted women look like, well, lingerie (visible separate cups, sometimes fabrics that are shiny and satiny-looking). Rock on! Now, I don't know if I'm definitely going to start a couch to 5K program, but this will be awesome for dance class at the very least. If I can find myself a good pair of running shoes for cheap on eBay, I might just do what has always been the unthinkable for me, and actually try running, and not just to catch a train or dash back to my house for something I forgot. :)

Oh, BTW - my current plan is to be at Stones this year (wasn't sure if I was going to be able to swing the cost, but it really won't be too much) - will you and the Boy be there as well?

Date: 2008-06-24 07:09 pm (UTC)I thought I might have paid more than necessary when I went to the specialty store and bought shoes, but then I went home and checked all the shoes that I'd liked at the store online...and I did find a couple sites where they were slightly cheaper...savings which I would then lose in shipping. It's a pretty small difference.
I just checked Ebay for the ones I got, and it's the same problem; all told, I might have saved $5 on a $100 pair of shoes, and at that point, I'd rather give the money to the person who just spent half an hour helping me choose.
Don't get me wrong, I love Ebay. But for some things, it's not actually saving you a whole lot, especially with new, brand name items.

Date: 2008-06-24 05:13 pm (UTC)EDIT: My bad, they DO do sports bras, but I really like the one I ordered. I tend to be good at judging my fit. Better than Lady Grace was, that's for damn sure.

Date: 2008-06-24 07:15 pm (UTC)Yay! Good for you!
Whether or not you do a program like Couch-to-5K (and I think you only need it if, like me, you can't run half a block without nearly falling over), the fact that you found a sports bra that fits might make you feel like running and jumping just to celebrate.
(Honestly...I don't get that. I mean, the smaller girls barely need it in the first place--why aren't more sports bras aimed at larger-chested women? Weird. Yes, I know--I'm ranting about something that doesn't personally affect me, since I fit the average ones--it's still stupid.)

Date: 2008-06-24 07:31 pm (UTC)Well...it is free. I mean, they tell you right on the site I linked to the schedule of the six week program, with tips about tailoring it to you. So it's not like it's a major decision.
But um...yeah. I haven't started yet (tonight), but I'm pretty sure that if I didn't have a set routine, I'd overdo it and get discouraged, which they advise you not to do. And I've had 3 other friends who were out of shape and otherwise intimidated by athletics most of their lives make huge progress with that program, so it gives me hope it'll work for me...besides being really inspirational (hell, what's a little asthma?).
