I think my iPod is dead. Shit. I was caught in three thunderstorms today. I had an umbrella, but my backpack still got soaked. Guess what was in my backpack? Yeah.

Earlier, the screen was flickering bright and dark. Then it started occasionally flashing a low battery warning symbol on the screen. Now it's flashing some sort of an error symbol: a folder icon with an exclamation point. It does not show a charging icon when I plug it into the charger. If I try to connect the charger to the computer and then plug it in, I get a message saying that a USB device has malfunctioned and my computer doesn't recognize it.

SHIT. All I can do is leave it alone to dry (It didn't seem like it got all that wet, really) and try plugging it into the charger every now and then to see if anything's changed.

In addition, I planned out a nice dinner without thinking to first call the boy and find out his ETA. I can give him leftovers, but whatever. Also, this is the kind of dinner that's best fresh off the stove, not reheated. And of course, the ingredients would not have kept until my next available dinner-making opportunity. Stupid. I should have called him.

I'm not having a good day.

I'm afraid I have no comfort for you. That exclamation point icon is the iPod equivilent of the blue screen of death. I've been there. Are you still withing your warranty period? They are generaly very good about the exchangng.

If not I can ask [livejournal.com profile] cerunous if he has any lying around. He picks up broken ones on ebay and fixes them. He's good.

This is second hand and about 5 years old. Fortunately, it just turned on!

the exclamation point is the big error that is still fixable... the "sad ipod" one is the broken beyond belief.

mine got that a bit ago. sad ipod, sad me.

there's a reboot procedure that you can follow. look on their website.

Actually, the more it dries out, the better it's acting. It's charging now, and displaying a normal screen. Not reacting properly to input, though. I'll give it time.

Well, there's still the hard reset option. I think it's holding the Select and Menu buttons down for 10 seconds while it's plugged into the computer...

Tried that, but it's not reacting to input as I said, so it hasn't worked yet.

If it's still drying out then leave it off until you're sure it's absolutely dry! Even if it's partly working trying to use it can do more damage.
