The Move is done.
We still have a good bit of stuff to bring over from
pierceheart's place, but it's all stuff that can fit in Binky. We also have a whooooooole lot of unpacking to do. Tons. We're bringing food over from my place and his tonight, and houseplants. But the big part of actual moving is done.
So, Friday evening I found out that
fangirl715 was in the hospital, and would be until Monday. I did some packing, then left late in the evening to meet a friend at the airport. I spent the night at his and his wife's place, getting only four hours' sleep. Goddamn Coast Guard station and their goddamn 7am reveille. GAH. Then, when I got back to my place around noon, I finished getting everything ready at my place (didn't take too long), and we packed up the truck. We then went to the boy's place, and did a lot of packing. Then, we headed to the new place and dropped off all my stuff. We set up the bed, at least, and I located stuff for showering. Then it was back to the boy's, where instead of packing more (it was rather late), we exhaustedly collapsed and ordered a pizza. We were so ravenous that we both burned our mouths from wolfing it down. After dinner, we went to my place to get Lucy, and hit a grocery store on the way back to the new place, for cat food. Poor Lucy. She was so traumatized in the car and in the new place! But she slept on the bed with us, and purred.
Yesterday, we went first to my place, where we did a bit of cleaning up and fed Jezebel. Then, we went to
pierceheart's, where we packed MORE. K, a nice guy who we met through
miss_lisa_ma, helped us out after 3-ish with moving stuff down to the truck and then with unloading it. Lucy seemed to be getting rather well adjusted by the end of the day. The boy and I are both still utterly exhausted and hurting all over. We're going to be unpacking for a while, now, but at least we can start living there. Yay!
We have an apartment! With a deck! A BIG deck! I'm exhaustedly excited. :)

Date: 2008-08-18 02:56 pm (UTC)We did use a truck: we borrowed a big panel truck from a friend of
it was hell.
Never again!
April 97: I moved me from DC to Boston on my own, not so bad.
August 97: I moved two from Boston to Malden; the two of us did it, using my station wagon. Sucked.
March 02: I moved ex-wife into truck.
March 02: I moved me from Malden to Dedham (and some into storage in Somerville), using a Uhaul van, the cars of three people, and about five people helping me.
June 04: My friends packed up my apartment in Dedham
July 04: and moved me out of my home into storage in Dedham, emptied the Somerville storage, using a uhaul truck, and about half a dozen good friends, and two family members, while I was at war.
After that, I decided to never have my friends move me again - they don't deserve the abuse.
July 05: I paid Dragonfly movers to move me from Dedham storage to my Somerville apartment. I didn't like their costs.
August 08: Laura and I consolidated two apartments into a third, using us, a 14 foot panel truck (three days), one handcart, my Ford Focus, and a good 'Villen.
Even had I been all packed up and ready to load the truck when it arrived, it sucked.
I'm paying someone, next time.
Just not Dragonfly.

Date: 2008-08-18 06:29 pm (UTC)They work with MIT. They pack up. They were fast and efficient (Tom's sister and her hubby just moved with their four kids, so LOTS of stuff!). And they REFUNDED Tom $600 when they finished earlier than they'd expected. He wouldn't have known if they'd kept the $1,200 check he'd written for their estimate. So they're honest.
Anyway, congrats, it's done, what doens't kill you and all that. :-P AND you have a big deck so Laura can entertain to her foodie cooking heart's content!

Date: 2008-08-18 08:26 pm (UTC)Sorry I couldn't be of any help this weekend--there's no such thing as a good time to get appendicitis, but there are definitely worse times than normal. *sigh* Thanks for looking after Jezebel--my mom was very worried about her!
