The battery on my iPod is dying. I either need a new iPod or a new battery. I've looked at new iPods. I don't need that much crap. I could get one that's a bit newer than mine but not the latest model on eBay for $160. That's still a buttload of money. I can get a kit from one website with instructions, a new battery, and an opener tool to replace it myself for $37.
Thing is, if I break my iPod in trying to replace the battery, I would need to get a new one anyway.
Have any of you folks done an iPod battery replacement? Is it easy? Even for someone who most decidedly did NOT "come first in jiggery-pokery?" I've never done any work with computer hardware or any kind of electronics. I'm good at following directions, but with something in which I have no experience, they have to be really amazingly clear and precise directions.

'Fraid I can't help you on the battery replacement. I had to replace my iPod a month or so ago, after my first gen Nano got dripped on when Hurricane Hanna came through VA. Meh. I've been loving my new one, though.

Date: 2008-10-30 02:16 pm (UTC)Also you could get a professional to install it for you which is still cheaper than a new ipod. these people (http://store.ifixipodsfast.com/ipod-parts-/-installation/ipod-3rd-gen/ipod-3rd-gen-high-capacity-850mah-battery/prod_67.html) seem to do installs at no extra cost (you just have to ship the ipod to them) plus they have a video (http://www.ipodhowtovideo.com/3rdgen/3gbattreplacement.html) of the install process which might give you a better idea if you want to do it yourself or not.
