Nesting

After Samhain, the nesting season begins. I start really wanting to hunker down and make my house a home. I have to say, already, this apartment is the most homelike place I've ever lived outside of my parents' house. But now, after spending a goodish amount of time in Home Goods and the Christmas Tree Shop, I'm getting the urge to decorate. I want to have a Yule tree this year. I've never had one of my own, and this year, my MOM is skipping the tree-setting-up! I was very dismayed to hear that, since she always has the most gorgeous tree of anyone I know. Always has. I told my mom I want to get my ornaments when I go to their place to visit them for Thanksgiving. I also need to get the thing I got from my grandmother's estate after she died that reminds me of her more than anything (with the possible exception of my little copper saucepan, one of the many that hung in her kitchen. That is an antique printer's typeset box used as a display for a whole bunch of little assorted antique and vintage knick-knacks. That too hung in her kitchen. I'd like to hang it in mine, if I can find a good spot.

I don't know if it's partly because I was burning a candle for Brid earlier, but yeah, I'm feeling all home-centered and cozy. I'm now going to go through my apartment room by room and do at least five cleaning-related things in each room, and at least one decorating-related thing, or some other thing to simply make it look better. That will be easier in some rooms than in others. Then I will eat leftover yummy beef stew.

I know what you mean

I was delighting in the cosiness of domesticity today. My flu is almost gone, just a lingering cough and tiredness, so I cleaned house. I hadn't done it in a while, due to my being sick this week, and out of town the previous two weekends. I'd fallen behind. Amazing how much dirt can pile up in a couple weeks! But, the apartment is mopped and dusted now, and it feels so good.

I'm hosting Thanksgiving for the first time this year... I'm so excited!

I get like that, too.

I did a bunch of domestic stuff yesterday, and it felt good. I'm looking forward to hanging my lighted wreath, but too early is just tacky, IMO.

I miss the days when I hosted Thanksgiving. We had some great parties! :)
