The boy and I just finished watching season 4 of Doctor Who last night. Whoa. No, that's not it. WHOA. David Tennant was a bit annoying to me throughout seasons 2 and 3, but in this one, he finally started to grow on me, especially in certain episodes. This last two-parter, especially. Of course, I feel like there were some major plot teases in there. Still, it fulfilled my need for big drama in a TV series, and it sort of wiped the slate clean for the next storyline. I'm interested to see what happens next. When do WE get the Christmas special?

Also, I am still dying to know who's going to be the next Doctor. And I think I need to watch some more movies with Christopher Eccleston in them--the documentary thingy at the end of the series showed clips from season 1, and reminded me of how much I like him, and how little I've actually seen of his work outside Doctor Who (though I at least know he was brilliant in Shallow Grave). Oh, and Good should be coming out tomorrow. SQUEE. Viggo Mortensen AND Jason Isaacs. :)

we haven't seen the last episode yet. We DVR so much stuff that we're still getting caught up from before the holiday break. I can't wait to see. I've heard it's heart-wrenching. Good for DT for quitting while he was on top. That shows class and intelligence.

Have you seen the BBC production of Neverwhere? (This question is relevant.)

Word is that the new Doctor will be the delightful man who played the Marquis de Carabas.

I don't like that idea, from a continuity POV: he was already on DW as Rodrick in Bad Wolf and Parting of the Ways, and we've already seen how they deal with people who have appeared in the show before - Eve Myles ferinstance.

While I think he would be good, as the Doctor, I'm a continuity freak - I flipped my lid when I realized they'd had Ed Wasser in two different roles on Babylon 5 - one of whom was a key evil fucker.

Well, they don't HAVE to deal with EVERYONE who's been on the show before in that way. Why should they be tied down to that? The characters Eve Myles played had more in common than just the actress: they were from the same town and had similar names. That was clearly intentional. But the Doctor and Rodrick have nothing in common. I'm not sure the Doctor ever even encountered him personally. Might have been in the same room with him once, just after Rose got zapped and before they got stuck in a cell. That's it, though.

Continuity doesn't mean you can't re-use actors. Actors and their characters are and should be considered separate as a rule, with cases like that Eve Myles thing being a deliberate exception.

Yes, but it's not confirmed yet that Paterson Joseph is going to be the next Doctor. It's been rumoured, but it's not definite. Does look like a high probability, though. I keep checking the news, but there's been nothing new since the gossip in late November.

I just got the Season 4 DVD set for Christmas, so I am way behind, but I am glad to hear Tennant grew on you. I have never gotten over Eccleston leaving, after just one short season!

I KNOW. I would get that "you never forget your first Doctor" tee shirt, if it were in a tailored girlie style instead of unisex. Unisex tees look horrendous on me.

Awesome t-shirt, but yea, i need shirts styled for women, too.

My first doctor was #4 Tom Baker, who I also loved.

I remember a game my brother, cousin and I played as kids. We'd sit at the top of the stairs and slide down on our butts, one stair at a time. At each one we'd say, "I don't like this doctor," and then we'd get to the bottom and say we LIKED that doctor. Weird game, but we were weird kids. I must have been 6 or 7.

Well, at least one and possibly two other person(s) have already offered to solve your Xmas special problem, but if you want download links, I'd be happy to provide them.

(I hate waiting for BBCA. And they always hack it to bits with the commercials in the wrong spots, and sometimes even bits cut out. The hell with them. I download everything, which means I get it less than half a day after it airs in Britain, generally. Well worth the effort.)

Not yet! I really want to, though. Mmm. Chris Eccleston in uniform.
