I’m kind of annoyed at my computer right now because I just made one of those little face-icons that all the kool kids seem to be making now, and because of the fact that my LJ doesn’t refresh properly on this computer, it doesn’t show up in the list of icons available when I go to make a post. Grr. I’ll have to fix that when I get home tonight.
So: the weekend. Friday night was the HUB Ostara ritual. It was quite an interesting experience. I tried on a role that I don’t know if I’m quite suited for, but which I did to the best of my ability, and hopefully didn’t screw up too badly. Big big hugs to [livejournal.com profile] tigira and [livejournal.com profile] meadmaker for being so cool about it!
Saturday I rushed off to a friend’s house in the morning. It was good to get together with that bunch again. Afterwards, I had time to kill. Can you guess what I did? Two things. Two things I do far too often. Yes, that’s right. Shopping (in Harvard Square) and knitting. :) I bought an amazingly beautiful amber strand. It’s long, and made of large cognac amber chips. It was 75% off, because Little Russia is going out of business. Great buy, but it’s sad to see such a place go. That necklace went into my hope chest, along with my great-grandfather’s wedding ring. It’s my hope chest because I hope to wear the necklace and give the ring at some point in my life. I also went to Cardullo’s for the first time. Oh, I can see the gaping looks of surprise from here. No, I hadn’t ever been before. I like the place, but can’t see myself going there too often. It was like a trip back to Ireland. I saw the goodies I always loved over there. They have the biggest Cadbury selection I’ve seen in this country. They also have Leonidas. And Murray Mints!! That excited me sooo much. Murray Mints are these hard mint candies that are unlike any other, because they’re rich and buttery as well as minty. They sort of taste like hard minty caramels. Mmmmmm. I practically had an orgasm in the store when I saw them.
That evening my friend Jason picked me and some of his friends up in Harvard Square and brought us to his parental abode in Carver, where he was pug-sitting, for a party. We watched Gamera, and I discovered the joy of Japanese monster movies. I mean…giant flying turtles that spin around in the air!!! We also had the nostalgia trip that is Ghostbusters on the screen. Oh, and by the way, the screen was on a 65” TV. The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man was nearly life-sized.
Jason drove me back home on Sunday afternoon. It’s nice living close to him, and a pity we don’t see one another more often, considering it’s only a 10-minute walk between us. He said he wants to dye Easter eggs this year too, so I bought some of the old Paas egg dye yesterday. Yay! I love dyeing eggs. I would love to do the natural-dye kind, but I also want to be realistic about how much time I will have. I may invite Jason to do this on Friday night when I see him next, and make them Ostara eggs. :)
Anyway, yesterday evening was nice. I made pasta with vegetarian sausage sauce, and watched The Wickerman. I love that movie so much. I could watch it over and over and never get sick of it. It occurred to me during this viewing that in spite of the fact that Christopher Lee is not an exceptionally good looking man, his character in this movie is quite sexy: a Scottish Lord, in a kilt at one point, with a lovely resonant bass, and very Pagan. Gotta love it. And he has a rather charming smile. I now have “Gently Johnny” stuck in my head, and am looking very much forward to Beltane, even though I have no Pagan boy with whom to spend it, alas.
I was disappointed not to be able to make the New England Flower Show, but I may be able to go this coming weekend. Hope so! And now, back to my lunch so I can finish it and get going on my work.

I might wanna try them Murray Mints at some point. Sounds good.
Sorry you couldn't come with us to the flower show...but it really wouldn't have been enough time. Hope you can make it next weekend with the pass.

Good lord...a 65" TV...I can't even imagine. That's almost as big as me.

What is a not half bad price for gardenias? I've never bought them.

gardenia's are relatively in expensive. i just need 1 or 2 plants and it really shouldn't be more than 20. but i can handle 40.

It looks like it might be kind of tricky for me to finagle the time to go. I might be able to make it on Sunday, but not for very long. I will also be traveling by T, so it will be hard for me to carry a lot. If I do have time to go, and if I have someone to go with me who can help me carry things, I will get you a gardenia or two.
