+ Lovely dinner and conversation last night with my friend. I already posted about that.

+ Legend is on Comcast On Demand!

- It's not the version with the Tangerine Dream soundtrack.

+ New cookbook: Gordon Ramsay's Healthy Appetite! I got this with my 40% off coupon at Borders yesterday. It's wonderful! Ramsay's dishes are never fussy or overdone, but he does have ideas I never would have had, so even in its simplicity it's inspiring. This particular cookbook is all healthier stuff, where he keeps down the fat and puts in lots of veggies and fruits and whole grains. I adore Gordon Ramsay. He's simply a genius. This cookbook is gorgeous and simple: a very good buy! I almost got one of the Jamie Oliver ones, but decided this one had more recipes I was likely to cook.

+ I managed to get six new pairs of black socks quite cheaply at TJ Maxx yesterday, downtown. All my black socks decided to get holes in them at the same time, so they have now been replaced.

- I did NOT manage to find any new tights. Apparently, even though it's still cold out, it's no longer tights season? Shite. Maybe I can get some cheap ones at CVS or something.

+ Breakfast this morning was amazingly filling and delicious for only three points. Thank the gods for veggies. I had a roasted portobello, a couple of roasted Campari tomatoes, a veggie sausage patty, a couple slices of light multigrain toast with fat-free margarine (I know, not real food, but it doesn't suck), and some scrambled Eggbeaters with Penzeys Mural of Flavor seasoning. Nom nom nom!

last night I made very-low-fat alfredo sauce, based on Mom's recipe. It starts with chicken stock, and you make a flour/water rue (no butter) to thicken it. Add fat-free 1/2 and 1/2, and enough parmesan cheese for flavor. I used the reduced fat parmesan to make it easier on my liver.

An entire pot of the stuff has 9 grams of fat. One serving has about 1.5. It was yummy. I was grateful for that.

Oh wow, that sounds fantastic! Is there a more precise recipe with measurements, or do you just do it by feel/look/taste?

I did it by feel/look/taste. The only thing with fat that I added was the cheese, so I could be sure of the fat grams in the pot.

Some people use fat free evaporated milk instead of fat free half & half, too.

Cool, thanks. I will have to give this a try sometime.

Tights you say? I bring you tights!

Because I want all the women on my list to have beautiful legs clad in their very own style.

And yes, it is Feb in St Louis, it is 22 degrees, but Target has no pants or suits, but has the swimsuits out. Really? REALLY?

I can't tell if you're happy or sad about that. :-)

I "grew up" on the original US release, with the TD soundtrack that we all loved at the time, and I confess that I still love and play that soundtrack. (I love TD in general.) But I ALSO confess that when I finally saw what has been sold more recently as the Director's Cut, with the original soundtrack that never made it into theaters, and without the chopped-up scenes, and with the originally intended ending... well, I liked the MOVIE a whole lot better. It's a much stronger story, mythically and magically speaking. And I *love* the music that was originally written for it, especially that adorably simple folk song, which I sometimes find I can't stop singing to myself. (Including the verse that never made it onto film, which I discovered researching the director's cut online, which is now part of the song for me.)

Sad--it's one of the minuses. This is the director's cut. I fell asleep watching it last night, but I want to re-try tonight or some other time!
