Feels like Monday, almost.
Mar. 3rd, 2009 09:45 amYeah, I did work yesterday, but doing so at home made it feel a bit more weekend-ish. I spent my lunch break shoveling snow, though, after eating the bento I'd prepared the previous night. This morning, I came in to find a hungry and hyperactive fish, a cute ferret on my Cute Overload desk calendar, and plenty of work to do.
My bento for today has a couple of mini-hamburgers made from extra lean ground beef, a dash of fish sauce, a little garlic powder, and some ketchup. One of them broke, but the other is still whole. They're sitting on a bed of roasted butternut squash, and I have cucumbers and a few baby carrots in the other tier of the box, with furikake sprinkles. My bento box's lid (the outer one) cracked Sunday night when I was putting it in the fridge. A piece broke off. It still closes OK, but I figured that was a sign from the gods that it was ok for me to go ahead and buy the other bento set I've been eyeing. I got a full set with a two-tier box, a separate "sidecar" box, a strap, a thermal bag, and a set of mini-utensils. The pattern is very cute. Bananas are good! Oh, and it's LUBE SHEEP brand. Awesome.
The weekend was fun. I went out on Saturday night to see a roller derby bout with
bluegargantua. It was the first one for both of us, and it was pretty damn cool. It made me want to learn to skate! OK, so I used to skate when I was a kid, but very badly, and I'd like to learn to use roller blades, even though the derby girls don't use them. I also want an awesome derby name like Bettie Rage or Ella Razor or something like that. Auntie Maim, maybe? :) It's like burlesque, but much more dangerous and with less stripping! At the bout, we ran into
fraterrisus,
coraline, and others who I didn't previously know. That was pretty cool.
Sunday was pretty low-key. I made some really awesome curry and Thai baked tofu for dinner. The prep made me realize that damn it, I need a new kitchen mortar and pestle SOON. I went to Assembly Square, but the only place that had them was Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and the only model they had was a small one identical to the one I use for herbs. I need a big one, and refuse to pay through the nose for it. Anyway, I DID find a gorgeous new chalice. The stem is a couple of dolphins supported on a spout of water, but not in a "woo-hoo beach party" style.
Last night, I found out that I had enough stuff to make chili con carne and a big salad without going to the store, so I didn't leave the house all day. Today, though, I desperately need to go grocery shopping! I'm out of a lot of important stuff.
Well, that's my life at the moment. And now...to work!
