Good morning!
Mar. 23rd, 2009 09:38 amI don't hate Mondays. Not even Monday mornings.
Things I've done lately:
1. Had a lovely time with my friends on Saturday, including egg dyeing and potluck and seed planting. Dish created for the occasion: polenta "pizza" with goat cheese, fresh basil, and wilted arugula and watercress.
2. Planted more seeds at home yesterday with
pierceheart to start our garden. We currently have two kinds of basil, jalapenos, cayenne peppers, lavender, sage, and coriander. We're also planning to plant some tomatoes. Hmm. Maybe I should ask my friends who are getting heirloom tomato seeds to pick some up for me, if they get them before I next see them.
3. Yesterday, I cooked a lovely dinner: filet mignon with chive-parsley butter, parsnip "frites" (in the oven), and salad. I was just SO HAPPY with how the steak came out. It was tender and juicy and perfectly cooked and rested!
4. Made a microloan through Kiva. I only loaned $25, but might do more later. It's for a woman and her husband who own a bakery in El Salvador. I was thinking about all these tiny little restaurants and food shops in third world countries that Tony Bourdain visits on No Reservations, and decided it would make me happiest to help someone in the food business.
Things I still have to do:
1. Rack my mead and add herbs!
2. Knit! I haven't picked up my knitting in too long.
3. Start making a grocery and equipment list for the food I'm bringing to the shower. I may borrow some cooking or serving equipment from friends who are also attending the shower.
