So, on Saturday, while I was at my friends' house, I ran up and down their stairs (2 normal house flights) about 20 times. Ran, not walked. I tend to do this on my toes, sort of, because it gives me more of a spring. Um. This is ok to do once or twice. It is not ok to do about 20 times. My calves hurt like hell. Why on earth was I in that much of a hurry?

I am thinking about skipping dance class tonight. If I'm going "ow ow ow' with every step I take, dance class may well be miserable for me. I might even cramp up, which would not be good. I want the exercise, though. I also haven't taken a walk today because of this (and because I'm trying to make sure I'm here to whip out a draft of a brief to send as soon as my manager reviews my work). Dang. I'd also feel guilty skipping dance just because it feels bad.

Thought: I will take off my boots and see if it hurts more or less to walk flat-footed, which is how I'd be in dance.

*does so*

Hmm. Not as bad.

*does a few dance steps*

Verdict: side hip hit walk, basic Egyptian, open door, Raquia on toes, and level changes are all quite painful. Especially the last two. Ow. Methinks I will give myself a night off. Bugger.

take care of those calves and tootsies. I run stair like that myself and on the balls of my feet as well. So I know what you're feeling.

My sympathies

Doing too many stairs on my toes, in boots, was a major trigger for my arthritis. owie owie ow.

See if [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart will rub your feet and tootsies? Some gentle stretching and massaging will help put them to rights while you're taking a night off.

Alas, he is not here tonight! Anyway, my feet are fine, it's just the legs that hurt, and I'm not sure that anyone but a massage therapist would know how to knead the muscles so that it loosened them up instead of making them go ow more.

I have to ask, too, "What were you thinking?" Those are some hefty flights - they have higher ceilings than in many houses.

You don't realize it if you're feeling good and full of energy. :)

Perhaps you're past the worst of it now, but I've found that sitting in a really hot bath ("as hot as I can stand" is the way I like it, myself) for a while will really help. As early as possible after the exercise is best, of course, but it's nice at any time.

But...ow!

Yeah, I at least took a good hot shower. :) It's getting better.
