The refrigerator saga
Apr. 6th, 2009 08:30 amYesterday afternoon, I took pretty much everything out of the fridge and freezer, catalogued everything (with the exception of leftovers), and chucked it. I saved some booze which is ok at room temperature, some veggies (baby carrots, celery, radishes, and some herbs), the butter (fine at room temp for a good while as long as it's not out in the open air), and the cheese (most of it was still in the packaging, all of it was at least well-wrapped, and that stuff lasts almost forever). I did put all that stuff in the fridge at work this morning, though, with the exception of the booze and the butter, which I didn't want to take the chance of squishing in my bag.
Still no word yet from the landlord, which is irritating. I am going to call again later this morning, and emphasize that we had to throw away all our food and can't buy more perishable items until the fridge is fixed.
We ended up going out to eat last night at the Summer Shack, which was rather nice, though I'd hoped to make some nice comfort food for
pierceheart after his weekend of working. Oh well. Maybe tomorrow, if we're lucky. Fortunately, I had stuff for making oatmeal with dried fruit and nuts for our breakfast this morning, and there was powdered creamer (the emergency supply) for our coffee. This was a good thing. I might hit Trader Joe's today to get lunch-y stuff, but since I've already got veggies, cheese, and crackers, I might not really need much! I wish I'd remembered my list of damaged food, so I could check prices on everything I got from TJ's.
What I can remember:
Capers
Chicken and vegetable gyoza
Marinated mushrooms
I'll see if more comes to mind before I go.
