My father reminded me recently of a game I used to play with my sister. We would have a pile of paper scraps, a pile of sheets of paper, and a box of crayons. We'd start off by each writing a word down on a scrap of paper: usually a noun, sometimes an adjective. We'd then trade words and see what the other wrote. Then we'd combine the words and use the crayons to draw a depiction of the combination on a sheet of paper. I remember one time, one of us wrote "olive" and the other wrote "monster". The resulting drawings were hysterical enough that the game became known thenceforth as "Olive Monster." We would occasionally do this even into our teens when we were bored, believe it or not. For all our differences, one thing my sister and I share is our sense of the absurd in humor. We would crack ourselves up playing Olive Monster. Probably still would. If you have kids, try playing this game with them. If not, try playing it while drunk or something. You can also do it with more than two people. If you have three people, A gets B's word, B gets C's word, and C gets A's word. That sort of thing. If you find that two words aren't compatible (like, say you get two adjectives like "greasy" and "scared"--it has to be a THING you're drawing) you can re-swap with multiple people or just each do a new word. No fair just one person changing the word: the fun in this game is all about serendipity.
For the record, I have included a depiction of an Olive Monster, probably fairly similar to one of the ones we drew back in the day.
