Things and stuff
Apr. 17th, 2009 09:58 am1. I have to put in a plug here for Planned Parenthood. I love them so much. The people at the Davis Square office are friendly, competent, and nonjudgmental. I went in for my regular testing and a prescription renewal, and came out feeling very positive about my health and about the people looking out for it. Yay for them. It also didn't cost much, though that was partly because there was a special on testing. (And can I just add what an ego boost it is to have a nurse practitioner look at the stuff the other staff member wrote down after measuring it, and say, "Ok, your blood pressure is good... your weight is good..." A medical person thinks my weight is good!!! Eeee!!!)
2. I made caramelized onion quiches last night. I cooked them until the edges were set but the middle was still a bit wobbly, let them cool, and froze them. I'll finish cooking them on Sunday morning. I had pre-caramelized the onions, which saved me time. They look gorgeous. I used the trimmed remnants of the pie crusts to make a little turnover filled with leftover rotisserie chicken and roasted garlic mashed potatoes, which I froze to save as a treat for my boy. :)
3. I'm getting out of work early today. Have I said that I love my office? I love my office. I will use that extra time to walk up to Central Square, hit Harvest Co-Op, and pick up a bottle of coconut extract. I saw it last time I was there, and I don't know for sure if they have it at Stop & Shop, so I may as well get it where I know they have it! Then I will go home, dump my stuff, grab a granny cart, and head to the grocery store for my remaining supplies. The evening will be full of quiching and possibly frosting-making. And a minor bit of sewing.
4. I'm giving my presentation today at work for the other researchers. My co-worker and co-presenter has probably practiced more than I have. I know she has, in fact. But I'll be ok. I tend to be more comfortable talking in front of people than she is anyway. She knows her stuff, though, so I'm sure she'll be ok too.
5. Today's rushed bento: salad with baby greens, goat cheese, dried cranberries, and chopped pecans, with sesame-ginger dressing. Nom. I also have kettle corn again...but this time, it's the 94% fat free microwave kind in 100-calorie bags. I got a box that's 5 of those and 5 of the butter flavor. This was a smart thing for me to do.
