Oh man. Oh, you people who made the new Star Trek movie. You are shameless. Utterly shameless. What you did to the storyline? Why, the only thing I can compare it to is...

...cheating on the Kobayashi Maru simulation.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT! :D

I am impressed.

And FINALLY, they give me a Kirk whom I can believe slept his way across the galaxy. AND Hot Spock, to boot. Only took me five minutes to get over the Sylar-Spock thing. >:-)

I had no trouble with the Sylar Spock thing. I wanted to be Mrs Spock when I was little and I've always wanted to do obscene things to/with Sylar. So when I found out that Quinto was Spock I went all kinds of SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE I never ever wanted to be Uhura - until that kiss. *girly sigh*

I can't get into Spock, myself, even when he's played by a relatively attractive guy. But yeah, not a bad Kirk! Personally, I thought Eric Bana was sexy as Nero.

I never liked the original series all that much. I was a Next Generation fan as a kid. But this movie was awesome!

... actually, how they handled the Kobayashi was the part of that movie that I disliked the most. It's been built up as this "Kirk totally defied all odds and found a way to work around the constraints of the situation and broke the simulator and they had to pass him".

Instead, he probably paid some smartass 500 credits to hack the computer. It was a total letdown for me and a seriously lame way to film it. Kirk could not have possibly expected that they would let him walk on such a lame cop-out like that.

Other than that though I really enjoyed the movie! :)

Yeah, I was a bit let down by that part, too.
But overall, loved the movie.

It was ham-fisted and stupid. Forget cheating, I'd've tossed his smug 90210 ass out just for thinking he could get away with something that inane.

Old canon was, I believe:

Kirk personally hacked the computer to make the Klingons in the simulator believe that someone identifying himself as 'Captain Kirk' was big, scary, and important, and thus someone they would rather help than attack.

The instructors gave him a commendation for clever, a sharp scolding for having enough of an ego to think that his name would be enough to give a hostile pause, and 99 demerits for being an ass (expulsion was at 100 demerits).

Personally, I wish they'd kept the ego trip. Bonus fun point in our knowledge that he did turn out to be someone whose name might give a hostile pause, and, y'know, Kirk's ego is a canon major character.

I was disappointed by the KM scenario in the movie because the original canon was just that much more appropriate than the whole, 'Oh, their defenses are down? Ping ping ping let's go!' thing.

The basic facts -- Kirk hacked the scenario, people were Quite Irked at him -- are there, but the "And this is such a goddamn Kirky thing to do" was out. (I think the sitting there noshing on an apple may also be old canon, but my memory is fuzzy.)

I happen to recall how Sulu handled the scenario, but not any of the other command staff.

... Hi. I'm a giant nerd.

LOVE this movie and what they did to the ENTIRE timeline of the Star Trek world soooooooo frakking hard. That is all.

Seeing Terminator tonight.

but yeah, hot Kirk, Hot Uhura, hot spock and even hot Scotty. Yeah I will be looking forward to seeing what they do with the new changed universe and the ripples for future Trek films. Could they bring back KAHN? The Borg? The possibilities are ENDLESS.
