Coming out?

Research team manager S, after I showed her my moose pics and was talking about how we found the moose: "Oh, what's your boyfriend's name again?" (She has heard pierceheart's name before.)

Me: "The one I went with is J_____."

My sub-team manager, from the other side of the cube wall, joking: "Heh...it's her OTHER boyfriend!"

Me: "Actually, yeah."

Color me amused if they actually processed that. :)

I'll be taking a different girlfriend to a work social event soon. we'll see how they handle it :)

I have had the odd experience

That's more or less what I do. I'm neither "in" nor "out" in most work contexts, but I act as if I'm out, and as if I assume that people know and don't care and wouldn't be confused. So if something like this happens to come out, I wouldn't put any mental energy towards either trying to hide, or trying to explain, unless someone asked.
