Yeah, today I got very nostalgic for Ireland when I went outside. I think that more than just the rain, it was the fact that I wore my raincoat, something I don't always do when it rains. The raincoat is an L.L. Bean Gore-Tex jacket that I got when I went to Ireland. I practically lived in it while I was there, wearing it with thick sweaters underneath for most of the winter instead of a winter coat, because it kept out the damp. Wearing it makes me want tea with milk and sugar and Walker's shortbread. It makes me want to cook curried lentils, like I did in the kitchen of my little Corrib Village flat. It makes me want to sit in the lounge area at the student center on the NUIG campus. It makes me want to walk the streets of Galway again.

Anyway, this rain has put me in a good mood, oddly enough. The rain in Galway did eventually get me down: there were times in the winter where we'd go for days and days without sunlight, as we just did here for so much of June. But right now, it's good.

It may be an Irish day here, too: it's actually cloudy outside. Bear in mind that Texas summers are always brutally hot (95-100s), and this one has been moreso with drought conditions.

Also, Reuters has this story:

"Goat's crowning as King of Ireland in doubt."

For what it's worth I can see a rain front heading for my office block right now, it's just a sheet of rain advancing on me. The bad part is I have to get my bus soon.

I always thought all the talk of how much it rains in Ireland was an exaggeration, until I got there.

Your post has made me long for a raincoat...and a trip to Ireland :). I bet yours looks super cute, too. Do you have boots to go with it?

My raincoat isn't really in any way cute. It's just kind of there. It's green. Looks like a raincoat. Not stylish or funky. My boots, however, are funkalicious: red and purple argyle galoshes.

Newport in the winter it rarely snows... But the sun never shines.
It rains and rains and then it rains some more.
The kids from Roscommon said it reminded them of home but it was colder...

I really wanted to make it to Ireland/the north in general while I'm in France, but my program has been taking us all over Provence so I haven't had the chance. Obviously I'll be coming back to Europe, though, so it's next on my list!
