First, the bad:

R.I.P. Moby Dick. He passed on today, euthanized by [livejournal.com profile] witchyspyce after three weeks of not eating, and of failure to respond to two types of medication. He was a cute little fish with a big attitude. I'll probably get a new fish soon, but I'll remember this little guy with fondness.

Now, the good:

I spent three days and two nights with J in Rhode Island. We saw the new Harry Potter flick, visited my parents, and had sushi on Tuesday. Wednesday, we went to Mystic Aquarium. We saw them feed the penguins, and I got to pet manta rays and crabs. There was a ginormous sea lion, a beluga whale (I LOVE whales), and other awesome critters. We went shopping in Mystic Village (OMG FUDGE). Thursday, I met his mom and her long-time boyfriend, though the weather prevented us from going on the boat. They were really nice, a little wacky, but in a good way. She reminds me more than a bit of my mom.

Today was the world's easiest dental cleaning (seriously, she looked in my mouth and said she barely had to do anything), and a nice haircut. I really like my hairdresser. He's awesome. We chatted about sci-fi shows, movies, and some politics. The boy and I went to T.W. Food for dinner. A Yelp review will be forthcoming. Then we came home and cleaned like madmen for the cookout tomorrow.

I'm sorry to hear about Moby... :-(

I love Mystic Aquarium - it was only about 45 minutes from URI (my undergrad Alma Mater), and my (fisheries major) friends and I made road trips there on occasion.

Sorry about your fish. I didn't know fish had personalities. Live and learn.

Sounds like you're having a great time with J, though. And yay for easy dental cleanings.

Hope the cookout goes well.

Yeah, fish can have personalities. I don't know if they all do, but Moby Dick was really cute. He used to hang out on the bottom of his tank, and when I came in in the morning, he'd get up and waggle his tail at me as though to say, "OMG FEED ME!" And he would flare at me sometimes if I got close to his tank quickly. :)

Thanks. :)

They had 21 flavors at this place. I got chocolate mint swirl, "tiger butter" (vanilla fudge with swirls of chocolate and peanut butter), and maple walnut. And left it at J's place. Oops. Hopefully he'll remember to bring it when I see him again! I did mention it to him.

I'm sorry about Moby Dick :-(, but happy you found a great stylist. Without any Drama Llama doing your shampoo :-)

Oh, I've been going to this guy for a while. Friends recommended the place. They're reasonably priced (very), nice, fun, good at their job, and their salon is just adorable. I only went to Drama Queen once!

R.I.P. Moby. Hopefully some day I will have a respectable job and and office (ha ha) and can get another betta fish. I used to love to make mine puff up by showing him my favorite pen. He was such a fierce fishy.

I bequeathed him to a co-worker when I left that job. He lived for another year at least, and I'd had him for two years.

For future reference, how do you euthanize a fish?

Basically, you anesthetize them with clove oil, then you dose them with alcohol until they're dead. this (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-the-most-humane-way-to-euthanize-a-fish.htm) is a method that seems to be widely accepted.

Thanks. I'm looking at his tank right now (which I need to empty and wash today), and missing him. :(
