Why is it that in pictures, my hair always looks longer and my boobs always look bigger than they do in the mirror? Even when the angle is similar? I mean, this is me at work:


My boobs DID NOT LOOK THAT BIG when I got dressed this morning. Really. I'm almost embarrassed looking at this. And my hair? It isn't REALLY that long. I mean, I just got two inches chopped off!

Photography is weird.

By the way, the cookout on Saturday? Awesome. We kept it fairly small because we wanted to make sure that we didn't have more guests than we could feed with smoked ribs. :) We were a little afraid it would be a stretch nonetheless. Still, there were so many side dishes (yes, two of those were my fault. OK, three.) that we actually had leftovers. YUM. I brought in leftover pastry to work today. Note to self: that little bakery you pass on the way home every day? PRETTY DARN GOOD.

Furlough is over. I'm back at work. Working. See how hard I'm working?

Thank you. :) I'm not looking for compliments, really. I wish I could show you a picture of how I thought I looked, so as to give a better idea of what I'm talking about! I looked at this picture (which I took to get the full length of my hair), and thought, "WTF? This does not look professional! I look like the cleavage monster!" Not BAD, but not work-ish.

Thanks! But I think I need to get a little hook-and-eye combo (I may still have some) and finagle this neckline to be a bit more work-appropriate. I didn't realize quite how much vavoom it showed. I feel like my top looks a lot less overbearing in my new bras, but apparently, it still needs to be restrained.

... so, instead of simply telling you how wonderful you look, I'll actually answer your question.

The answer is that you seem to be using a webcam, which is displaying a bit of pincushion distortion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distortion_%28optics%29). This is related to the same phenomenon as barrel distortion, which bends straight lines that do not follow one of the axes of the photo in wide-angle photographs (http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrishalford/2790723472/in/pool-scott_kelbys_worldwide_photowalk_boston). So, if you had a pair of rulers next to you, standing vertically, they'd probably bend as well. It doesn't affect your face because you have the shot centered on your face, and the center of the image is the least distorted. It just leaves you with a .. umm .. slightly larger endowment. (You work for a university. You should be happy to have endowments!)

Of course, you do look really great. For some reason, that green really works for you. I'm not sure how many people could do that. But your hair - I'd really love to do a Film Noir style photo shoot with you sometime. That would be beautiful.

AHA! See, I knew it wasn't just my imagination! That makes perfect sense. Thank you for letting me know I'm not crazy! And also for letting me know my coworkers are not seeing me as being as ridiculous as I am in that picture.

Our endowment is not as big as it used to be, alas!

I'd so love to do a Film Noir shoot. That would be so much fun! Hey, maybe I should watch Laura again to get some ideas. :D

heh, every time we watch House or any of the CSIs, and the women always have cleavage down to "there" at the "office," I always ask "WHO goes to work with cleavage down to THERE? No office I've ever been in." Well now I know! Thanks for clearing up that mystery for me. :-)

Seriously though, in this heat I think you have no need to worry about how you look in that dress. It is entirely work appropriate, and looks great. Amazing hair too. Just like a model doing a photoshoot for an office supplies catalog or something.

Yeah what he said makes sense. I also think a there is a bit of forced perspective happening caused by the angle of your webcam, from where it is placed on your desk. It looks like it is both slightly tilted and rotated, which is good in that is centering on your face rather than the endowments, but you can see the angles at which the desk behind you and the cabinet on your right are at. So everything closer to the cam is going to appear slightly larger.

Thanks, hon. :) I just felt a little weird being more boobalicious than intended at work. I get a little paranoid sometimes about inappropriateness, because I know I tend to dress sort of on the edge of it. But my office is pretty cool.
