Yesterday, upon learning that J was too sick to come up for our scheduled date, I decided I'd go to Windsor Button after work and get some yarn to start making a pair of extra-warm mittens for the winter. After all, I didn't have anyone waiting for me at home, and dinner was going to be leftovers. Well, I got the yarn. I also spent a good deal of time in the shop advising a n00b about how to make tassels on a scarf and on what needles are good for weaving in ends. I then proceeded to TJ Maxx and Marshalls, where I took a quick look around the dress departments to see if there happened to be anything cute and formal in my size. There was not much formal at all. I did the same at Macy's. Nothing I could wear there. Then I hit CVS and got some facial care stuff. Then I stopped at Lambert's produce stand. You know, there are times when I miss being in Downtown Crossing. Being at Lambert's reminded me of that. I picked up a bag of green beans and a red pepper for $2. Sweet. I came home via Wellington Station, and hit Christmas Tree Shops on the way. I wanted to see if there was anything I could get there for dessert that wouldn't ruin my diet. There was: a couple of cake mixes made by Sweet & Low that just required water to be added, and which was low in fat. I got chocolate and gingerbread. Then I went home, fed the cat, and ate my leftovers. Nom. Then there was bento-prep, which included making a goat cheese and veggie wrap, roasting green beans and grape tomatoes, and carving a smiley face into a Babybel Light cheese. Then I baked up the chocolate cake mix as cupcakes. It's ok. I'm glad I added about a tablespoon of plain cocoa powder. It's a little like a slightly dry angelfood cake in texture, and was improved by the addition of a smear of low-sugar strawberry jam. Then, I cast on for those mittens, and knit until I HAD to get my ass off the couch and go to bed. I had a hard time sleeping because the bed was so cold. It was under 55 in the apartment (damned heat).
Whew. So. That's my "I have nothing to do" evening. :) I'm very excited about the mittens. I think tonight will be MORE leftovers, and probably laundry. And cuddling with my boy, who I haven't seen in a couple days. Yay!
