Geeks? Us?
Dec. 13th, 2009 09:18 amOur house now has three copies of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
When
pierceheart and I moved in together, we each brought a rather old and well-loved hardcover set of the books with us. Neither one of us wants to get rid of our hardcover set, and with good reason. I know I've had mine for 20 years now. I cherish it. But the thing is, thick hardcover books like that are a bitch to carry around in your backpack for on-the-bus reading. So, when I found the trilogy in three separate paperback books on sale for half price, I snatched it up. Much easier to cart around!
***Currently in the second half of The Two Towers, for the umpty-fifth time.

Date: 2009-12-13 04:09 pm (UTC)i bought another paperback copy, the movie tie-ins, because i've had my paperbacks for almost 30 years now. (good god.) - but *because* these are my reading copy, i can't really like any other reading copy. i find i'm used to where the page breaks are! and the feel of the paper. so i got rid of the movie tie-ins.
it was so weird to discover that i can't comfortably read another paper edition of LotR. and since these books are like my cherish baby blanket, they need to be comfortable to read.
the large single edition is for looks, because the story deserves the beauty, and for when i want a more 'epic saga' reading of the text. epic sagas come in large hardback volumes for maximum effect. :)
