pierceheart got the first season of
The Hunger on DVD a while back because it was cheap and it was erotic horror. No, it's not related to the movie, though David Bowie did host the second season, introducing the episodes. It's like a series of short stories done as TV shows. We just watched the first episode. The writing, acting, and directing were surprisingly good. I really enjoyed it. It didn't slather on the blood or the lube. It was really very literary in some ways. I could see it being a short story that I'd read in an anthology and love. Beautiful and strange.
I like the fact that each one is like a short movie, and I don't have to worry about getting caught up in a long plot, so I can leave it alone or come back to it any time. I'm eager to see if the other episodes are as good. Apparently, other writers for the series include Harlan Ellison, Poppy Z. Brite, Tanith Lee, and Brian Lumley. Nifty.
