Has it really been a whole week?
Jan. 19th, 2010 09:09 amWow. I guess I've been pretty damned busy since I last posted! Thursday and Friday were my department's annual retreat/conference/symposium thing, so I wasn't actually at my desk at work. Instead, I sat in an auditorium and listened to speakers, and got fed free food. Right after that, I headed over to Arisia. Some highlights of the con:
1. Getting to be a Naughty Nurse. Although it was hell on my feet, it felt really good when people signed up to give blood, and to know that I was a part of making that happen. Also, wearing the costume was a lot of fun. The calendar photo shoot and the Masquerade skit ("Hey big giver, give a little blood to me!") were both a blast. I hope I can find a video of that skit online soon.
2. A great stitch 'n' bitch on Sunday morning
3. An interesting panel on fairy tales and mythology
4. An interesting panel on polyamory in the media (good job,
drwex!)
5. Shopping around and finding neat-o presents for people, and getting to see
fabricdragon, chat with her, and buy some of her lovely jet for myself.
6. MaltCon, at which I got to try the blissful and amazing Ardbeg Supernova. Oh sweet gods, it is LOVELY.
7. Little kids liking my pirate costume. Arrrr.
8. Seeing a guy at a pirate-themed concert with a fake hook hand. But not just any hook. A crochet hook. Crocheting rope with it. I cracked up when I saw him, and then showed off my knitting and introduced myself as a fellow "yarrrrn pirate."
All in all, a great weekend.
