A good weekend
Mar. 29th, 2010 01:41 pmThe weekend started with NERAX on Friday night, with my boyfriend and my father. That was awesome. We got to try a number of excellent beers. The night's winners, IMO, were Redhook's Long Hammer IPA and Pioneer's Pioneer Red Ale. NOM. Gorgeous hoppage. We tried to go to Redbones after, but it was jam-packed, so we went to Namaskar and split some breads and appetizers. Also nom. My father spent the night in the guest room, and I cooked breakfast for us (eggs with veggies in them and leftover naan and chapati) in the morning. After he left, I did a little shopping in preparation for
vervain13's birthday party. I went there in the afternoon, and the party was fantastic! Great people, lots of good food, and lots of fun. I have apparently impressed a few new people with my blueberry-thyme martinis. :)
pierceheart got home from work really late on Saturday night, and we slept in (yay!) in the morning. We sort of had a slow start to the day in that it took us a long time to put on real clothes and leave the house, but we got lots of housework done. I cleaned the kitchen countertops, super-cleaned the stove, and even took everything out of our lazy-Susan cabinet and scrubbed the heck out of those shelves. I wanted to do the fridge, but that will have to wait. We ran some errands, and then I made chili for dinner with ground turkey and kidney beans. That hit the spot. Early to bed in the evening. A nice, relaxing day.
My umbrella is in tatters by this point. The fabric has come loose from the points of three of the spokes, and it flaps around. Yes, I could get a needle and thread and fix that, but the spokes themselves are bent and on their last legs. You know when I got this umbrella? The beginning of this month. Yeah. I need one of those windproof ones. I think I'm going to take my lunch break to go to the MIT bookstore and see if they have 'em. I can't think of anyplace else nearby that would.

Date: 2010-03-30 01:08 am (UTC)i used to get mine at filene's basement, whichever one was craziest in color and cheapest.
last one i got from the quasi-dollar store in central square (Jax, i think). that one is my spare umbrella. right now i have only two umbrellas. i usually have at least three, so i have an immediate backup at home or work for when (not if, when) mine is trashed by boston winds.
chicago is called the windiest city because of the *politicians* ; the actual windiest city is boston, so i read once somewhere. makes sense to me.
