Belly dance costuming and recital stuff
Apr. 1st, 2010 09:59 am1. Last night, I removed the hooks from my new costume bra and re-sewed them further down the straps to make the band and halter tighter. This was a success. I now need to buy some of those little velcro stick-on dots. I can use them to keep the extra strap material from slipping down by sticking them together where they overlap. That'll work for the band, anyway, but the bra might just need to be pinned because the sequins get in the way of attaching the dot. The end of the band, though, is not decorated.
2. I need to get the skirt finished. I'm trying to get together this weekend with the friend who's doing the work on it for me. I have to think of something I can do or give her to thank her for her help. A nice thing: the liner, the under-skirt, is shorter than the full length of the skirt, so I'll be able to wear it under the skirt without it peeking under the hem, I think. Not that I really intend to wear it as a liner. Wearing it over a pair of harem pants or another circle skirt, now...
3. I've settled on a song combo, I think. At least, I've decided for sure I'm going to do "Soodeh Soodeh" by John Bilezikjian, and a short oud taxim before that. I'm considering one that John B. did as an intro to "Siroon Aghchig," one of the songs on Songs From the Armenian Diaspora. It's about 53 seconds long, that bit, and with "Soodeh Soodeh" at 3:40-ish, that works out to a decent recital piece length. I'm going to download Audacity tonight and see if I can put those together.
4. I don't need a veil for the recital, but I'm thinking about getting one from A'kai Silks to go with this costume. They're cheaper than L. Rose, which I hadn't expected. They ARE unhemmed, though. I'm not sure how big a difference that will make to me.
5. This weekend I'm going to start my choreography. Which means I'm probably going to finish my choreography. It'll need tweaking later on, I'm sure, but I usually can't start without finishing. I'm also going to go through Nadira Jamal's DVD on improvisation.
6. I need to buy blush, nail polish, and fresh tubes of self-tanning goo for the recital, and practice putting on my fake eyelashes!

Date: 2010-04-01 03:01 pm (UTC)I'm doing my first-ever moving-hooks-etc. stuff on my bedlah, and so far I haven't screwed up anything royally, which pleases me to no end.
Now, then, if I can just get rid of the bone-crunching hacking cough in time, I MIGHT actually survive my recital!
Question: how long before your recitals are you done with your class/group choreography? We seem to finish the last bit of our routines shortly before performance, and it's a tad nerve-wracking for us amateurs.
