Dinner last night was awesome, and mostly courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart. He had the bright idea of rubbing a cut-up chicken with ras el hanout (a Moroccan spice blend) the previous night and refrigerating it overnight before grilling it up for dinner. YUM! He also grilled some eggplant slices and yellow squash. I made a bulgur pilaf to go with it. I have a leftover drumstick, some of the pilaf, and a salad in my lunch today, and will be eating that soon.

Tonight, I'm thinking some kind of white fish in a Southeast Asian-inspired sauce of some kind, possibly with rice and a salad. At least, if my man thinks that sounds good too. He rarely objects when I come up with dinner ideas, unless he has a hankering for something else in particular.

So, there's this new Robin Hood flick coming out next Friday night, starring Russell Crowe. That might be worth watching. At least, Robin Hood is cool and Russell Crowe is cool, so if it's not worth watching, that'll be a disappointment. I'll probably see it. I really do love movies, and don't get out to the cinema enough.

I just sent flowers to my mom for Mother's Day. I don't always do that, but this year, I won't be going to visit her, and she did just give me a big bunch of gorgeous lilacs from her garden after my recital, so I thought it would be nice. I got a bouquet that included lilies, because her name (Susan) means "lily".

I really need more short-sleeved shirts. I have so few that are work-appropriate. It's such a pain, because short-sleeved shirts don't often look like good office attire unless they're collared, button-front styles. Those styles rarely fit me right or look good on me. Meh. I found a short-sleeved shirt with a ZIPPER front at NY&Co the other day, and was SO EXCITED, but when I tried it on, the cut was all wrong (tight bust, long, billowing body, poofy sleeves). Bummer. I'll have to start early one weekend day when I have a lot of energy, and go through the whole mall in search of shirts, since Garment District is pretty hit-or-miss on this as well.

Your food posts make me drool. We got some ras el hanout in Marrakech but it's running out. Haven't been able to find any down here--there's not a Moroccan restaurant or distributor in sight.

Dude, you don't need to buy it pre-mixed! It can vary in terms of what's contained in the blend and what the proportions are, but this (http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Moroccan-Spice-Blend-109356) is the recipe I use. OMG, have it on lamb. DO IT.

Ah that's right. I remember the man who sold it to us told us it basically meant "the best of all spices." Thanks!

Yeah, I think the literal translation is "head of the shop." :) For that reason alone, you may be inclined to add some cardamom, since it's one of the priciest (and yummiest) spices out there!
