So here's what happened, the whole story.
I went to the BU campus after work to pick up my recital DVD. It took a while because I had a hard time finding my dance teacher's work mailbox. Then I got on the green line and changed to the red to go to Harvard Square. I went to Lush, got a face mask. Then I got on the red line again, and went to change to the orange line to go to the grocery store and go home. When I got on the orange line train, though, it was stuck there because of an issue a few stops in front of it. Meh. It sounded like it was going to be a while, so I decided to get back on the red line, go to Davis Square, and get some stuff at Dave's Fresh Pasta for a quick meal, and take the bus home. When I decided that, it was already almost quarter to seven.
Anyway, I checked the bus schedule at Davis, and the next bus back to my area was at 7:30. I had half an hour to kill, so I decided to stop at Boston Shaker, the cocktail-supply store, before hitting Dave's. I picked up a nifty book of cocktail and appetizer recipes (quite creative), and a bottle of grapefruit bitters.
I came home, had my dinner (goat cheese and caramelized leek ravioli tossed with olive oil sauteed onions and garlic, a salad, and a glass of dry Rioja rose), and decided to make a cocktail. The cocktail, which I am now sipping, is gorgeous. It's one part Hendricks gin, two parts diet Schweppes tonic water, and a few dashes of the grapefruit bitters, garnished with a thick slice of cucumber. Delicious! That cocktail is the outcome of a rather wacky evening, travel-wise. I want to do more experimenting with cocktails, of course. I keep asking myself, "what kind of cocktail would I make with X ingredient?" Carrot juice. Thai basil. Ginger liqueur. Lavender. All kinds of stuff. It's as much fun as cooking!
