Writer's Block: The Worst Job

Well, the college summer I spent working as a temp with a 2:30pm-11pm shift and Wednesday and Sunday as my days off sucked pretty badly. Everyone I knew was at work when I was free in the morning and early afternoon, out of work during most of my work day, and asleep by the time I got home. I couldn't do anything fun on Friday nights or Saturdays, either.
Still, that wasn't as bad as my first permanent job. Most of you here remember my griping about that job. I was an administrative assistant at a tiny company that made computer software systems for anatomic pathology labs. The president of the company was a complete jerk, and when you're in a company that small, you're on the bottom rung of the ladder, and you report directly to that boss, it sucks. Suffice it to say that he made me so anxious and freaked out that my work got worse and worse over time. It was a self-perpetuating cycle. I eventually got the hell out of Dodge: quit even though I didn't have another job lined up. It was scary, being without a permanent job after three years there, but it was one of the best decisions I ever made. If I ran into DL (the boss) today, I'd probably get my revenge by living well. I'd inquire politely after the company, his family, etc., and I'd tell him about how much I love my job, how I'm still in the place that hired me after I left his company, I've been promoted twice, I've been asked to present panels, I'm headed out to a big conference on the company's dime at the end of the summer, etc. I'd give him a big smile, and be very nice, so he'd know that he couldn't keep me upset, scared, and feeling three inches tall forever.
