Random things!
Jun. 14th, 2010 01:45 pm1. We did some gardening yesterday. We got the tomato seedlings into their new Topsy Turvy homes. And when I say "seedlings," some of these buggers were starting to outgrow their 6" pots! Yeah we really did wait a little longer than we should have. I had to very carefully rinse the dirt from their roots in a bucket of water, so that they'd fit through the hole in the bottom of the containers. I hope they do OK. I also sprayed my basils with fungicide, since the Thai basil appears to have picked up a fungus. Blah. I also noted that the dirt in my "yard" contains tons and tons of clay. I wonder if I could use it to make a dorodango. Well, OK, I know it's possible, but I don't know how well I'd do! I ought to try. There is something about dorodango that really appeals to me. I think it's the whole "making something pretty out of something not pretty" thing.
2. I made squid, asparagus, and snow pea risotto last night. It came out OK, though the squid was a little on the big and old side, so it was kind of rubbery even with careful cooking. It was a different kind of rubbery than you get with overcooked squid. The taste was great though!
3. I had a doctor's appointment this morning, so I did that before going in to work. It was no more fun than a doctor's appointment usually is, but no less, either. My doctor's nice enough, and thinks I could lose a couple pounds, but that I'm in very good health.
4. I'm making "what-I-have-in-the-house" soup tonight. This will include mostly stuff that needs to get used up, so it will not use a recipe or stick to a carefully planned ingredient list. It's really an everything soup. I got the idea because I heard something on the radio that reminded me of Stone Soup. That got me thinking about the times I've made stone soup with friends as a potluck communal dish, and I decided to do something similar on my own. I will leave out the stones, though, because it isn't REAL stone soup unless it's a communal effort!
5. I also need to do laundry tonight. And gods, I've been neglecting my knitting too much. Now I want to make a dorodango, too. Life is full of too much to do and not enough time in which to do it all! Fortunately, I don't have to wash my hair tonight, at least. That saves time.
6. Less sure than ever now about how I'm going to spend vacation time. I'll figure it out.
