Well, that was pretty much a success!
Aug. 16th, 2010 10:11 amFor a little while now,
pierceheart and I had been trying to schedule a time for his parents and mine to come to our place for dinner so they could all get a chance to see him again before he leaves, and so they could finally meet one another. After much back-and-forth, we found out on Tuesday night that his parents would be able to come on that weekend. Considering we were busy Tuesday and Wednesday was our dates-with-others night, we didn't have much time to get ready! Still, we managed to clean the place up rather nicely. With
pierceheart's help on the grill, I made shish kebab (lamb marinated in olive oil, lemon, fresh oregano, Aleppo pepper, and kosher salt, accompanied by green pepper, onion, and tomato), bulgur cooked in chicken broth with Aleppo pepper, and a salad with pomegranate vinaigrette and toasted walnuts. We had cocktails beforehand, and a nice cheese-and-fruit plate after. The conversation was lively and enjoyable, and it all went over quite well. Our parents got along nicely. We even managed to mostly get cleaned up that night before bed!
The next day, we took his parents (who were staying the weekend in a club in Back Bay) to lunch at Top of the Hub. We wanted to do a duck tour after, but even though the brochure said the tours left every thirty or sixty minutes, the sign said that the next tour didn't leave until 5:30 (and it was only 3:15). Instead, we did a little driving tour or Boston and environs, and
pierceheart showed us around some interesting bits of his campus, including the site of the first World Series. Then we brought them back to their club, and said goodbye. We kind of crashed for the evening, after that. Good weekend, all in all, I think.
