shroderdog and I went up to Portsmouth, NH for some exploring and food. We poked our noses in a few little gourmet and kitchen shops (there seemed to be a surprising number of these in such a small area). One of them had a wide variety of extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars (some of both were flavored) that you could taste. I was quite fond of the blood orange olive oil and the garlic olive oil, and oh man, all the vinegars were amazing. There was a straight-up 18-year-old balsamic, which was so rich and complex. There were also ones flavored with blueberry, fig, pomegranate, peach (that was a white balsamic), raspberry, black cherry, and tangerine. We tasted a few drops of almost everything, though we both agreed that some of those vinegars, we could just DRINK given the opportunity. I dithered for quite a while, and ended up buying a bottle of the amazing blueberry balsamic. I can use it on salads, it would be awesome on chicken or beef or pork, and I can even pour it over fruit or ice cream for dessert! Not the peanut butter cup ice cream I have now, though.
We ate dinner at the Portsmouth Brewing Company, which was nice. I had an evil bacon cheeseburger. Great minds thinking alike, we each had a summer rye beer and a nice, thick, coffee-tasting stout.
This morning, I'm sort of mentally making lists of stuff I need to get done at some point. Pay bills, clean the bathroom, etc. Tonight, I will head out to Chez Henri for dinner withleenah, and then will go back to her place with her for some knitting and crochet (on her part). Yay!
