I feel so disconnected.

I went to e-mail my friend Dan, like I do every few months. I never get a response, but it always goes through, so I figured that he'd be able to read all my messages as soon as he came home, or at least as soon as he got net access. So I sent the latest e-mail. This time, I got a message back saying "mailbox not found". Not that it was full and over quota, but that it didn't exist anymore.

I now have no way of even trying to communicate with him. And if the mailbox doesn't exist, he'll never be able to get the messages that were in it. Which means he won't have my cell phone number. And if he didn't have my e-mail address saved somewhere besides his AOL address book, he may not have that anymore either. So he has no way of getting in touch with me.

I feel lost, not knowing where he is or how I'll ever be able to reach him again. I don't even know what unit he's with, so I can't watch headlines for their return. The page his fraternity had with the names of brothers serving in the military is now gone, so I can't see if they have his unit there. I wish I knew what to do. I miss him.

Sorry to hear that. The feeling of a void is always worse than a negative feeling--at least that's concrete. There are ways of finding people online, though--not that I know them, but I'm sure friends on here know.

I know. I've tried a bunch of them. Even military search sites don't turn him up. I've checked a few. Only thing I can find is an article written just before the 66th MI left Germany that mentions him. Doesn't say where he or any of them went, except that many of them went home. Well, he called me a month after that was written to tell me he was going to Kuwait. So no help there. *sigh*

I actually just found a forum on the 66th MI's website--his old group--and posted a request for info there. I doubt anything will come of it, but I can hope.

We don't really have any mutual friends. I met a couple he knows in Virginia, but I don't know their last name or remember the town where they live. We were never in touch with any of the same people. I never even met his parents.

I do too. I moved after he left. I changed my phone number twice. I e-mailed my new address and phone numbers to him, but I doubt he ever got those e-mails. My e-mail address is still the same, but I don't know if he has it in his memory or stored anywhere. He could google me, and find me on Witchvox. That's all I can see that he might find on me.
