Who can see me in this?

Burgundy, second from the left.

I know some of you out there aren't into cabaret style costumes, but I am, so it goes without saying I want a cabaret style costume. Keep in mind when giving opinions.

Yup.

I could see you in one of the red ones.

I'm thinking about it. I would also like an outfit with a bra top, but I'd have to have it custom made if it's going to come close to fitting.

Understood! You should indulge yourself! :)

Actually, the girl I know who custom-makes them is CHEAPER than most ready-made. And she does great quality stuff, too.

Actually, could you tack this one to a bra?
http://www.shimmyshimmy.com/Bras/606L.JPG

And add "sleeves"?

I don't really need sleeves. But the top probably wouldn't go over one of my bras. Most of the ready-made tops fit a size B on average.

Relook. I noticed that you are, ummmm, generous in that area. Sympathy here... I may not look it, but I have similar problems.

Sorry, didn't realize it was missing a model #
BRAS0606 - Coin bra cover
All sizes are approximate. These bras are all constructed in the same way with an adjustment possible across the back and an adjustment possible for each shoulder strap. They are meant to be stitched to your cloth bra (easy to do - just tack it in place. An everyday bra will do). Shown in gold, but also available in silver.

Small should fit an A or B cup (silver or gold)
Medium should fit a B or C cup (silver or gold)
Large should fit a C or D cup (silver or gold)
Extra-Large should fit a D or DD cup (silver or gold)

Oooh. That's different! Hmm. Cool. Still not what I think I'd want, though--not sure there's a bra I'd like it over for me. But it's good that they offer it in various sizes.

There was someone in your recital in a white one. Looked very pretty when she was dancing. I think burgundy would be a wonderful color.

Admittedly, I'm one of the ones not terribly into cabaret. But those skirts are great for accenting some kinds of dance. Just think the top should be altered to accentuate your assets...
Of course burgundy is a good color.

my personal biases aside (that style of costume looks horrific on my body type, so i tend to avoid it), i think you'd look great in the burgundy^.^

Hmm. I know you and Kat both hate cabaret stuff, but I like it. I like to sparkle! And I think that kind of costume would look cute on you, hon.

oh, i love to sparkle - i have a phenomenal turquiose costume covered in sequins. i always thought of that as cabaret style, actually...though i might be confusing it with burlesque style.

as to that costume specifically - it's the fishtail skirt that doesn't do anything for me. makes my hips look thinner from the front. i like having stuff on that makes me hourglass-ish and makes my hips stand out and adds flourish of its own when i move them.

in fact, this is what i got, though i altered it a bit -

Pretty! I like this one:
http://www.anatolianbazaar.net/costumes/0020.htm

But they don't sell the skirt with it, or separately. It just says top, shawl (meaning it's too small to be a veil), arm and head bands. Grr. I don't even see head and arm bands in the photo. And I couldn't wear a bra with it. I should go back to Lida.

I don't hate cabaret, just like it more subdued than it normally is, or mixed with other elements of, say, tribal and gypsy style stuff--all made up and American fusion anyway, newer, in fact, than cabaret. Though I do like mixing in some more traditional folkloric and Egyptian stuff, too. I like an eclectic mix, is all. I liked your costume on Saturday.

Ah. There was someone I was talking to Saturday who flat-out said she hated cabaret costumes. Maybe it was someone else.

I could totally see you in the burgundy. In my case, though I'd have to go with something with silver accents, the purple perhaps. But I'd have to learn to bellydance first. Hm....
