So this weekend was loads of fun.

I went to King Richard's Faire with [livejournal.com profile] lindalee and her friend S, [livejournal.com profile] tigira, [livejournal.com profile] meadmaker, [livejournal.com profile] cairpre26, another friend M, and her boy and brood. 'Twas fun. Everyone looked simply smashing. [livejournal.com profile] tigira and I were pleased to find our garb fit us better than ever, and [livejournal.com profile] lindalee looked resplendent in the infamous TOAP bodice. At one point, some garbed gentleman with a camera asked to take a picture of her and me. Silly, but flattering. We wandered much, ate food, looked at shiny things, and I bought a drinking horn. W00t! It's a nice one. Not the combo "you can also blow it" kind--I don't want the cork to dry out or break and render it useless. I had [livejournal.com profile] meadmaker take a few snapshots of me (before he fell off the car), and hopefully those will turn out well enough to scan in and make icons. Had a nice phone conversation with [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart that night too.

The next day I had plans to go to the Museum of Science with my dad to see the Lord of the Rings exhibit there. Turns out he hadn't bought advance tickets, and it was sold out when we got there. Grrrrrrrr. But we hung out at the museum anyway, and caught a planetarium show and a lightning show. Fun stuff. Afterwards we had dinner at Ginza, where I introduced my dad to some new kinds of sushi. I saw him off at South Station afterwards. He left me with an abundance of Penzey's spices of which he'd ordered too much, so I now have tarragon, thyme, hot curry, mild curry, and more cinnamon and chipotle. Yay! He also noticed my weight loss, and promised not to tell my mom.

So. A good time was had. I am hoping to be able to see the LOTR exhibit this Saturday (10/23), though. If anyone is interested in keeping me company (and Tolkein-geeking with me), let me know so I can buy advance tickets.

I will probably post a sestina I wrote a while ago, but can't remember it offhand to post. So here is a poem that I've always liked, and which [livejournal.com profile] pierceheart recalled to me recently:

Ulysses (by Alfred Tennyson, 1842) )

And because well, shit, he's just my favourite poet in any language.

CORRESPONDENCES
Charles Baudelaire

La Nature est un temple où de vivants piliers
Laissent parfois sortir de confuses paroles;
