I love short weeks and long weekends!

I am taking Friday off as a short notice day from work, to save my parents the trouble of driving me back home or to the train after Thanksgiving dinner. I'll be staying with them from tonight through Saturday, probably returning sometime Saturday afternoon or early evening, depending on what I want and need to do back here in the city.

Anyone have ideas for fun stuff to do on Saturday night? I will be missing [livejournal.com profile] pir's get-together Friday, thus depriving myself of non-familial socialization until Sunday night. I can't go out drinking Saturday, but would be up for other amusement. Movies? Coffee? Dinner? Knitting?

I skipped dance last night due to a sore throat, a sore shoulder, and a need to get packed. I hope I'm not getting sick.

So I'm starting to think about testing the waters in the dating pool again sometime soon. I have a boyfriend and two other guys with whom I already share a mutual interest, but all are far away. Having only one local person to date is just leaving me with too many boring weekends. I am finding myself talking to the cat far too often on Friday nights. :) There's one guy on OKCupid I'm thinking of writing to...some people I know know him, and like him. Not sure if he's poly or not, though...that might be a problem. I've seen what happens when I date guys who don't consider themselves poly. Either they start hurting and leave, or they find someone who wants a monogamous relationship and drop me like a hot potato in favour of her, thinking it won't bother me. Anyway, I will probably give it a shot and write him, unless one of the people I know who knows him can give me a good reason to avoid him. [livejournal.com profile] lindalee was thinking of writing him too. We have the same taste in men. :)

Ok, enough random musings for now. Work beckons.

There are few things more comforting than a nice spicy soup served good and warm when you are coming down with a cold. Why are hot and spicy things so soothing to my sore throat? It's weird. It's why when I'm sick, I make chai with black and cayenne pepper as well as the usual cinnamon, ginger, etc. Mmmmm. Spices. :)

At least it's just a sore throat and a general desire to curl up under blankets right now. I hope it doesn't get any worse.

I'm thinking about making my lovely cranberry sauce and a diet-friendly sweet potato dish to bring with me to my aunt's house tomorrow. I'm going to cook at my parents' place, which means I get to use their gorgeous new kitchen! Granite counters with chunks of labradorite in them...professional Viking range...All-Clad pots and pans...oh yeah. Porn for cooks. :)

I am very rambly today, apparently.

The basics: health, food, clothing, shelter, money
My family of birth, wonderful people who I love dearly
My family of choice, my spiritual family, who I couldn't do without
My much-loved friends, who have so often supported me and lifted me when I was down
My own talents and abilities that enable me to lead an interesting life
My gods, their presence in my life and the lessons they have taught me
The opportunity to live in a city I love
The ability to fit into jeans two sizes smaller than at this time last year (er, until tomorrow's dinner, anyway)
My sweet kitty, Lucy, who is always there to cuddle or drive me crazy
The chance to get in touch with old friends I might have lost otherwise
And every day, I am thankful that the man I love is alive and well and able to keep in touch with me, and that together we have managed to overcome most of the problems that hurt us. I'm thankful that our relationship is better now than it's ever been.

I'm thankful that I'm so happy, and that I can share that happiness with so many loved ones.
